As the journey began, I closed my car door , locked it, and proceeded to the
entrance. I walked on the crimson colored brick path, where I passed a patch of flowers.
There was an immense amount of diversity among these flowers, all different shapes and
sizes. They all gave of different aromas that blended together to make the sweetest of
smells. These little flowers excreted a redolent nectar that engulfed the threshold of
this large building known as Tyrone Square Mall. The exuberant fragrance of the silky,
soft pedals left me smiling, even before I had entered the building. It was this vast sum of
variety that fused to become a whole. One that no counterfeit perfume could ever match.
It was there, at that moment, when I realized that diversity wasnt a iniquity, but it was a
gorgeous art piece that was unexplainable to the human mind. This masterpiece needed to
be experienced not told of.
I entered the doorway and was greeted by a crisp, artificial breeze. I located
an open chair in the food court where I would observe people like a hawk watches its
prey. The same diversity that was displayed in the flowers was exhibited by the gathering
of people in the mall. The multiplicity of these people seemed to have no boundry,
consisting of all shapes, sizes, races, and genders. Some I could relate to, others I couldn't
see how I would have anything incommon with.
I started a voyage around the mall viewing others behave in this environment. I
walked out of the food court and into th shopping area. There stood a convention of some
sort in the middle of the mall. Thats where I saw him. He stood out like a fluorescent neon
light in a dark room. I approached his direction with complete curiosity. His face and bone
structure appeared that it was made of stone. He walked by holding a navy blue book bag,
while he was escorted by a taller woman whom he was telling his troubles to. I was eve's
dropping and by the smug look on his face I could tell that he knew I was. His hunter
green eyes and brown scruffy, thick eyebrows looked at me with a tone of revolt. Even
though I tried to appear friendly, it seemed to make him only more hesitant towards me.
His body language reminded me of when a dog is cornered, and how it will soon attack.
Im not calling him dog, although he did bear a spiked, chrome dog colar around his neck
and wrists. These retroflected the vibrant color off of his multicolored mo hawk. Instead
of acknowledging me as I grinned, he appeared to bite down on his plump lower lip.
He only toothed the left side for the right side was pierced by a silver ring. Although
this wasnt the only sign, he then proceeded to force his dense eyebrows down at a
slant so steep you could ski on them. I didnt flutter at all, instead I just kept walking
by gleaming with a smile. The closer we came, the more his nostrils began to flare.
Perhaps he just mistaked for somebody that he knew and didn't care much for. But that
was of no comfort for me. I was a little agitated by his ability to change personalities
towards a stranger. Especially since one minute he could open up and be jovial to his
accomplace, and the next when someone he wasn't acquainted with he built up this barrier.
A barrier that would take years, if it would ever be let down.
Yet still, I continued my observing. I eventually caught up with a group of
about eight kids that appeared about the age of 10. The sun was parting, the clouds
where turning a scarlet red on top of the sky which was becoming a light shade of
lavender. The darkness of the night was upon the last beams of light from the sun. It was
apparent that the mall would soon close. The mall became very desolate, it seemed as if
this group and I were the only ones left in the mall. Besides being one of the last people
in the mall this group was anything but ordinary. They all where bearing very fancy
clothing. The boys, suited in ties, and the girls in their dresses made for a strange sight
in the mall. They walked alone with no adults, which was also quite bizarre considering
they were of a young age. The week was young and just maybe they were celebrating
the sabath earlier. The most distinct feature of this group was there variety of them. A
short , African American boy with Thick, gold glasses walked talking to an asian girl
talking about the movie they had just seen.
Little boy: My favorite part was when the car went through the window of the office
building
I left the mall that day knowing that diversity is exhibited in all things.
Also that its not something to shun, but something to praise. Just like flowers
scents blend to create the sweetest of all smells, we as people should stop and
look at the breath taking skin kaleidoscope that has been created in for the
pleasure of our eyes.
